Model Creation with LiDAR Technology for an Extensive Experience

LiDAR is referred to as ‘Light Detection and Ranging’ remote sensing method, used as laser distance measuring with the sensory capabilities and ranging. It was used earlier in aeroplanes as a sensory measurement to get the exact distance between the land surface and the height of flying.

LiDAR didn’t get the popularity or recognition it deserved, until twenty years later in the 1960s. It actually came into familiarity in 1980, after the arrival of GPS method for calculating accurate geospatial measurements. LiDAR was then also known as ‘LiDAR Mapping technology’.

How does LiDAR work?

LiDAR uses the device camera scanner to calculate objects’ variable angles and distances. These collected measurements collectively generate 3D models of the specific object or the environment.

How LiDAR technology helps in Apple (iPhone and iPad) Model creation?

Shape, Size and Weight are pretty much similar to the older 2018 versions of the Apple products. Camera range is the most interesting part with this new version of iPad with LiDAR technology.

As we are aware of Apple promising better low light focus, the LiDAR depth sensing is also
used to improve night portrait mode effects in iPhone and iPads. Here in iPhone12 and above versions with the help of LiDAR technology you can measure how long it takes for light to reflect back from a surface in order to measure the distance travelled and to create 3D depth maps or models of what you see.

LiDAR helps and supports realistic Augmented Reality experiences and provides a huge motive to shoot in low light. With support of the A14 bionic chip, Apple’s implementation is faster, more accurate and has a longer range. LiDAR in Apple can successfully figure out how to place virtual objects in complex scenes using object occlusions.

How well is LiDAR primarily used on any iOS supporting systems?

  • It helps in the creation of seamless Augmented Reality experience
  • Low light and night time photography
  • It helps to measure the object depth and generate an accurate 3D model

Which industries are already exploring LiDAR technology?

LiDAR has useful applications across many industries. These industries are Automotive, Consumer Electronics, Consumer Health, Industrial and Security markets. But also the study says that, there are many such industries which will sooner be exposed with the capabilities and seamless user experiences. Industries in future which will be demanding LiDAR technology experiences are –

  • Exploration
  • Architecture, Design and Project Management
  • Virtual Experiences
  • Security Systems
  • Agriculture

The Intellify is nowhere behind in this race of new technology adaptations. Here the creators are constantly working on developing and delivering the exact seamless experience to users with their self upgradation on LiDAR technology and its configuration and use cases with the new and already existing AR and VR applications. Let’s associate and ideate to grow our business together.
